Activities for Kids Learning Spanish - 8 Ways to Make Learning Fun
Learning a new language can be hard and kids are often easily bored and frustrated with the same old lessons. The key to keeping them interested is to make learning fun. There are several different ways to incorporate learning into your children's day that they will enjoy.
What are some fun activities for kids learning Spanish to do?
Listen to Spanish music. Put on a CD while the kids are playing, or when you're in the car. Music is always a great way to get kids engaged and before you know it they will be singing along in Spanish without even thinking about it.
Watch Spanish TV Shows. If your kids' favorite cartoons or TV shows are available in Spanish, encourage them to watch one or two a day in Spanish. Younger children, in particular, will gain a lot of vocabulary this way as they associate the images on the screen with the words being spoken. You can also rent Spanish movies and watch them together as a family.
Take Kids To A Spanish Event Or Host Your Own. If any Spanish events are going on in your community, this is a great way to engage children in the language. There are always fun activities for kids learning Spanish to participate in and they will enjoy playing with the other kids as well. If there are no Spanish events or activities in your area - host your own! Have a Mexican-themed party, complete with a piñata, Spanish and Mexican food, decorations, clothing and games. Spanish Exchange - doesn't have to be in another country! Invite a Spanish child who is learning English over for a play date. They will end up helping each other learn each language. Who knows, it might develop into a great long-lasting friendship!
Spanish cooking Night - cooking is an activity for kids leaning Spanish to also learn about the Spanish, Hispanic or Mexican culture too. Get a Spanish cookbook (preferably written in Spanish) and get the kids to help you make the meal, speaking only Spanish the whole time. Say the ingredients and measurements in Spanish and explain the cooking methods in Spanish too. Once again acting out the words and phrases that they don't understand. You'll all have fun with this and get a healthy meal out of it at the same time.
